| An introduction to creating straw stars |
| Using just a few tools this craft is cheap, highly addictive and very easy to master. So why not give it a go? |

Straw splitter - Before making your stars you will need to split the straw. So this device helps you quickly and easily split the straw into four sections. They come in a variety of forms but all tend to use the same method of a fine cross shaped blade which you push or pull the straw through.

Straw splitter/smoother - With some designs it may be beneficial for you to slpit straw open down the middle or smooth split straw and this device does both. To smooth simply run along the lenght of the straw and to split down the middle place tip of blade in end of straw and work down lenght to end.

Straw placement ring - These come in a variety of sizes and allow you to quickly and easily place your straw whilst working on one of the many designs of stars possible. They come in two sections, the middle section is removed during the placement of the straw and the middle is then replaced to hold the straw firmly whilst you tie off with the thread of your choice.

Straw - This is obviously your main 'ingredient' for this craft and comes in a variety of colours from natural to bright yellow, green and red. Available in packs of mixed or a single colour is also comes in a range of lenghts suitable for small to larger projects.

Scissors and thread - The only other real equipment you will need are a pair of small fine scissors for trimming ends and a thread of you choice to bind the straw stars together. So raid your stock and see what you already have hidden away.
