Tension - Tension 14sts and 20 rows 10cm (4") (using both yarns together), measured over garter stitch on 5.5cm needles.

Abbreviations used - tog = together
st/s stitch/es
cont = continue
gs = garter stitch (knit every row)
inc = increase
rep = repeat
beg = beginning

To knit main body of bag - On 5.5cm needles cast on 21 st/s (using both yarns together throughout).
* Gs 2 rows.
Cont in gs inc 1 st at both ends of the next row. *
Rep the last 3 rows (from * to *) until you have 27 st/s.
** work 1 row.
Inc 1 st at both ends of the next row. **
Rep the last 2 rows (** to **) until you have 35 st/s.
Work on these 35 st/s until work measures 15cm (6") from beg.
Next: *** K2 tog at both ends of the next row.
Work 2 rows. ***
Rep the last 3 rows ( from *** to *** ) until you have 23 st/s.
Work 6 rows.
Cast/bind off.
Knit another side to match.

To assemble - step one - Oversew around the bag, leaving the 6 gs rows plus the opening unsewn.

To assemble - step two - Attach handles by turning the 6 gs rows over the base of the handles and securely sewing into place.

To assemble - step three - Using the bag as a template cut out the lining and sew around the outside edges, leaving the top open.

To assemble - step four - With the seam side on the outside slip the lining inside the bag. Turn the top edge and stitch into place just below the rim of the bag to complete.
